d07 Epilogue - After School, in the Music Room

Note: This translation is virtually unproofed aside from receiving basic corrections and help from a JP speaker. If anyone proficient in JP would like to volunteer to proofread this, please message me.

A-ya: Come on, let’s get back to the music room.

[Footsteps]

C-ta: Anyway, that surprised me. Whose voices were those, do you think?

D-ne: Maybe it was people from the past, sending a letter into the future...

B-ko: Ah, then that was—

A-ya: That’s obviously not it.

C-ta: You have no imagination.

A-ya: I mean, it’s not like it was placed in a locker like the rumor said. Isn’t it just that while we thought the cassette tape would be empty, the person who last used it recorded their voice, but because they messed up when they started recording, that’s the part that started playing?

D-ne: I thought it could be something like the rumor, but what you're saying is more likely, isn't it...

C-ta: Anyway, I wonder who “E-ki” is...

B-ko: Wait a second.

A-ya: Ah—

B-ko: Is someone in the music room?

A-ya: Ah, it’s that guy, right? The aforementioned—

E-noru: E-ki was my uncle.

A-ya: ...transfer student, E-noru.

E-noru: Anyway, A-ya, don’t be like that. I heard your conversation echoing in the hallway, with you saying such unimaginative things... Urban legends are things that evolve as they get passed around. It’s just like how this time, it was about a “voice” sent to the future.

C-ta: You’re as quick to quarrel with A-ya as always, E-noru.

B-ko: You’re as stuck-up as always, E-noru.

D-ne: Hello, E-noru-san.

E-noru: Yo.

A-ya: What were you up to, E-noru? We already did what we wanted to do... well, whatever. We’re going home.

E-noru: Sure looks like it. You could’ve waited for me...

D-ne: Hehe.

C-ta: With that, all five of us have gathered. Now then, let’s go!

B-ko: Yeah!
[others echo it]

[Footsteps]

B-ko: Hey, wanna stop at McDonalds?

D-ne: That sounds good!

C-ta: Maybe I’ll get a shake and some nuggets.

E-noru: Sounds nice, I’m getting hungry too.

A-ya: I want to go home and look into something...

B-ko: Then I’ll get an order of shakashaka[1] french fries!

C-ta: Alright!

B-ko: That godly flavor—

[music gets louder, drowning out the words, and fades out]

E-noru: ...After all, urban legends are things we create ourselves, aren’t they? E-ki-kun.

Translation Notes:
1 - A french fry order in Japanese McDonalds where you get french fries in a bag, sprinkle spices onto them, shake the bag, and then eat them. Shakashaka itself is an onomatopoeia for rustling.
